Chapter One
Young child with wide eyes holding an acoustic guitar for the first time, sitting cross-legged on a wooden floor

The moment a child picks up a guitar, something shifts.

It's too big for their lap. The strings buzz. Nothing sounds right. And yet — they don't put it down. That wide-eyed, slightly overwhelmed, completely determined look? That's where every great musician begins.

At Strum, we've watched hundreds of children have that exact moment. We know what comes next — and it's something every parent should get to see.

Chapter Two

Meet the guides who crouch down.

Our instructors never stand over a child and lecture. They pull up a chair, get to eye level, and meet each student exactly where they are — musically and emotionally.

Maya Chen, guitar instructor, crouching to show a young student a chord on an acoustic guitar
8 yrs teaching

Maya Chen

Lead Guitar & Songwriting

Former Berklee College of Music graduate who discovered her calling teaching a 6-year-old neighbor. Maya specializes in making theory feel like storytelling.

🎸

Her students vote on the song they learn each month. Current winner: a slowed-down version of Taylor Swift's "22."

Jordan Rivera, instructor with warm smile, sitting at child-height next to a student with a small guitar
6 yrs teaching

Jordan Rivera

Acoustic, Classical & Fingerpicking

Self-taught until 16, then classically trained. Jordan believes every kid deserves to learn in their own style — there's no wrong way to love music.

🎸

Keeps a jar of "first chord stickers" on his desk. Every student gets one the moment they play their first clean G.

Priya Nair, instructor showing a guitar technique while kneeling beside a young student
5 yrs teaching

Priya Nair

Electric Guitar & Music Theory

Played in touring bands for a decade before choosing the studio. Priya brings real-world musicianship into every lesson — her students learn songs they actually want to play.

🎸

Has a "Wall of Fame" in her studio — photos of every student at their first recital. Over 200 faces and counting.

Chapter Three

The riff that wouldn't come — until it did.

Every student hits a wall. Fingers won't cooperate. The chord changes feel impossible. Then one day — something clicks. Hear it from the parents who watched it happen.

Week 6 — "Play it again!"

"My daughter used to cry when we suggested any after-school activity. Three months in, she's the one dragging us to Strum."

Warm candlelit auditorium with rows of folding chairs and a small stage lit with golden light
Chapter Four

A small stage. Folding chairs. A room full of teary parents.

Twice a year, our studio becomes a concert hall. Students perform for families — not because they're perfect, but because they're ready. The moment a child walks to that microphone, everything they've worked for becomes real.

We've seen shy kids become performers. We've watched a 7-year-old play three chords and get a standing ovation. That moment belongs to your family too.

What to Expect

The first lesson, minute by minute.

No unknowns. No surprises. Here's exactly what happens when your child walks through our door for the first time.

🎸
0:00

Welcome & The Guitar Tour

Your child holds a real guitar for the first time. The instructor explains every part by name — headstock, frets, strings — turning nervousness into curiosity.

🎵
5:00

First Sound

We skip theory entirely. Within five minutes, your child plucks their first single note and hears it ring out. That sound is the whole lesson's reward.

15:00

One Chord, No Rush

We pick one chord — usually Em or G — and work on it together. We celebrate every almost-right attempt, not just the perfect ones.

🎶
30:00

Mini Jam Session

Instructor and student play together. Your child hears how their single chord fits into a real song. The room fills with actual music.

🏠
40:00

The Homework Surprise

"Practice" is actually a two-minute game — a simple challenge that feels like play, not work. Most kids start on the car ride home.

💬
45:00

Parent Debrief

You learn exactly what your child worked on, what they loved, and what to look forward to next week. No jargon, just a quick real conversation.
